Well, if you learned something then it's well worth having posted it! Thanks, Jerri. There's so much character in those birds, volumes can/have been written about them. smile I forgot to mention in the article how they love to play in high winds, it's even fun to watch. smile

» Red - raven...

Sandy,

The last few years we have had a raven that visits our property. I believe he/she lives in the woods across the street. We have to be careful what we leave lying around. It stole some shiny new screws that Dwight left lying on the picnic table.

Though the bird can sometimes be a pest, I enjoy having it around and hope it returns again this year. Ravens are magnificent birds. Thanks for sharing all the info. I certainly learned some things about them I didn't know.

Hi Mary,

So cool you have a 'resident'! I'm told they're relatives of the minah (sp?) bird (but don't quote me, I haven't looked it up yet) and one lady has a particular Raven that visits her daily and has for about ten years. I wonder how long they live? They're so smart and everything, I'd bet they'd make a good pet, but I couldn't even imagine caging one. Have you ever seen Raven's nest? I know they're there, but I've not talked to a single person who's ever seen one!

Sandy,

I am not sure how long Raven's live. That is a good question and one we should do some research on.

No, I have never seen Raven's nest. Mmm! I don't know anyone that has seen it either. Some more food for thought and research. If I find anything out I will let you know.

Hi Sandy,

This article was a delight to read. Your writing style is wonderful--like you are sitting beside the reader having a conversation. Indeed, you do paint word pictures.

All the best,

Hi Sandy,
I agree with Lee Ann -- this article was a delight to read! I enjoyed the legend, which I had never heard before. And the story about your daughter and the raven is terrific. It must have been fun to watch!

I hope all is well with you. Take care! smile

» Sunbear - Raven

Hi Sandy,

Managed to miss this article somehow.

You have touched on one of my favorite subjects, ravens and crows (both corvids), and I enjoyed your wonderful article with your observations of the birds and embodiment as a totem, etc.

In my retired topic, The Urban Naturalist, I wrote two articles about crows and ravens. Perhps sometime I will post the URls inc case you or anyone else is interested.

Thanks,
Tom
