» Bob_Ewing - Fall

Greetings, this year, here in Thunder Bay, we are actually having a real fall Season. It is November 20 as I write this and only a smattering of snow yesterday, that has since melted. The temperatures, daytime anyway remain above freezing. I've experienced long stretches of minus 30C weather and strong cold winds. I can wait a little longer.

» Red - weather...

Sandy,

I've read the 2002 Farmer's Almanac and it is not promising for southern Ontario this winter either. One snowfall in January last year brought 3 feet of snow to the area. It took me hours to dig out. Not pleasant and now that Dwight has a heart problem and has bypass surgery, he can no longer shovel. Sooo, I go it alone.

We are to have below average temperatures in December with little snow. Of course here when it is reaallly cold, we don't get snow. I hope there is a little for Christmas. Other than that, it can stay away.

We also had an October snowfall and I thought we were in for a good old-fashioned winter like we used to have when I was a kid. But the fall has lingered and we've had some gorgeous days. Last night there was a light snow fall but bu 10am, it is almost gone. It is colder though and the wind has a bite.

Hope you don't have to cut frozen wood or store food on the balcony this winter. The Almanac says we are in for big snowfalls from January till March. Not something I am looking forward to.

Take care, my friend. I send wishes to you and your family for a very Happy Thanksgiving.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for stopping by! Yes, I'll bet you can wait, -30c is pretty cold! With wind, oooh, the thought gives me chills this morning. Let's hope it's going to be 30 above and cloudless all winter. (and then we woke up!)

Gosh, Mary, if I was there I'd help you with that shoveling! Thankfully, we don't live in the tiny apartment anymore, now we're in that 'hole' behind the rock wall and no sun shines on us 'till spring. Our house is frozen long after everyone else's thaws out. I remember going by this house before we moved here, and we all have commented on being the 'lucky' family who gets to live in the shade. If it weren't such a cute house of the right size, we wouldn't have taken it. Summers in this house are wonderful.

Soon those boys will be big enough to help you shovel, eh? smile Take care, my friend!

From my warm south Texas home I can almost wish for some of that ice and snow, but I can certainly understand that it would get old after awhile. Enjoyed your very descriptive article.

» cswitwer - Hi Sandy!

Wow, Sandy! What a difference between your state and mine, eh? (Texas-- where it's 41 degrees this morning & we think it's the "dead of winter") It may only get colder than this a few days this year. We're so spoiled. But then we get paid back with our harsh summers!

I'm moving to Maine next year & good grief-- I think you just scared the bee-gee-beez out of me. (Whatever bee-gee-beez are!)

What a beautifully written article! Well done, my friend.

Best,
chris

Hi Sandi {{{{HUGS}}}}

Great article! It so reminded me of that show Northern Exposure. It's like a whole world away from the rest, eh. I thought it ironic all the others who left comments were in Texas, and from southern Ontario..both places I lived and now live. lols Someday I hope to visit Alaska..and the Yukon.*~;) Take care!
Love, Dallas *~;)

» Renie_Burghardt - Fall

Hi Sandy, I remember my first winter in the country. Pipes froze, I was running out of wood and food, and I had to learn to cope with nature's fury! It was terrible then, but now I look back on it fondly. I kind of learned to become a seasoned country person, and now am ready for anything nature has in store for us this year. At least I think I'm ready!

I enjoyed the article. Thank you! Stay well and warm now! Renie

That iceburg got my attention and your story even more so. It must have REALLY been cold. I can't imagine. We don't get weather like that here.

I'm glad your husband was handy and figured out how to split the heat tape! Also glad you got the fish. Even though you had your own freezer on the deck I can't imagine how you still had to contend with all that. Wow!

Glad you're all warm and cozy now. Hope you have no more stories in the future like this to tell!
