SDB & PLMS: What Does It Mean?Read the article this discussion is about
This archived discussion is "read only".
» BobandCarol - UARS My husband has been diagnosed with UARS after having symptoms since 1989, being diagnosed with PLMD and an Apnea of 7.7 in 1994 and no success with keeping the CPAP on. We moderate a support group for RLS and PLMD and went to Washington with the Natl. Sleep Foundation to lobby for money for the CDC to do sleep research. While there, we heard of a doctor doing his own research on UARS (new to us than.) Bob since had a sleep study, sleep latency study and a CPAP sleep study. The results were most, but not all, of his movements coincided with his 'off' breathing. We also know now that he cannot breath through his nose when he sleeps. Although he had Upper Air Way Surgery for Chronic Sinusitis and Nasal Septoplasty/Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty after the failed CPAP he is now going for laser procedure to shrink the membranes. I should mention that Afrin Nasal Medicated spray helped keep him in bed and not beat me up during this wait for the procedure.I need more info and the article I just read on this is just what I need. Anyone know of any? If Dr. White reads this, please jump right in. Carol -- posted by BobandCarol » humorous_sage - Thanks -- But -- Thanks for the information on these sleep disorders. However, you left me wanting more information. This seemed to be a teaser with more to follow. If so, when will the followup arrive?p.s. The symptoms sound familiar. PLMS is also known as PLMD (Periodic Limb Movement Disorder) and I wrote about it at http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/slee... In the coming months I will be looking at various other sleep disorders and trying to provide accuate information on them. I hope I can maintain the high standards set by Dr. White.
