The Dangers of Sleep ApneaRead the article this discussion is about

» humorous_sage - Conflicts I have sleep apnea. I also have facial surgery now and then (skin cancer). The two create problems for one another. After having Mohs surgery, I usually have to do without my CPAP for a month or so in order for the incisions to heal. So far, however, neither problem has proved fatal. I guess I am lucky.-- posted by humorous_sage » Sir_Bulldog - Re: Conflicts In response to Conflicts posted by humorous_sage:I am glad to hear that you were able to get by without your CPAP after surgery. I work security and am not able to work the Midnight Shift for fear of falling asleep without the CPAP and not waking up. Take care -- posted by Sir_Bulldog » humorous_sage - Re: Re: Conflicts In response to Re: Conflicts posted by Sir_Bulldog:It sounds as though I am lucky. With only 5 - 7 cm on my cpap, I seem to be able to do without it for short times. I hear that sleep apnea often gets better with age. Maybe that is what has been saving me. -- posted by humorous_sage » Red - Re: Re: Re: Conflicts In response to Re: Re: Conflicts posted by humorous_sage:
We found out about Dwight's sleep apnea after he had his bypass surgery. I had never noticed before, but after the bypass I was more aware of his sleep patterns. I found that he was not breathing at times and when we told the doctor, he immediately sent him to be tested. That was in 2000. His condition has worsened since then and he had to have the CPAP adjusted. I had never heard that sleep apnea becomes better with age. Thanks for sharing concerns about this condition. From the list of symptoms, I'd better talk to my doctor. Dwight says I snore terribly and I know he used to. I deny this, but the fact of the matter is, I can't wake up to find out if it is true. -- posted by Red » humorous_sage - Re: Re: Re: Re: Conflicts In response to Re: Re: Re: Conflicts posted by Red:Sleep apnea doesn't have to be fatal. I got my first CPAP machine about 20 years ago. Now I am on my third or fourth machine. They get lighter and better each time I get a new one. -- posted by humorous_sage
