Tinea versicolor - different cures for different people
This archived discussion is "read only". « Previous 1 2 3 4 Next » » right1 - Simple Answer ALRIGHT, TO ALL OF YOU WITH TINEA VERSICOLOR, LISTEN CLOSE. I HAD IT, WENT TO THE DOC, DID NOT HELP MUCH, HAD TO DO MY OWN RESEARCH. I FOUND THE ANSWER YOU HAVE TO TRY TRY TO SEE IF IT WORKS FOR YOU. IT DID FOR ME. GET TEATREE OIL (CVS OR WALGREENS), MIX SOME OF IT WITH A BODYWASH (I MIX IT WITH NEUTROGENA COZ THE TINEA LEFT BUMPS ON MY BACK) THEN USE THE MIXTURE FOR A WHILE AND SEE RESULTS. THE TEA TREE IS ANTIFUNGAL (I BET YOUR DOC KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT THIS!!!!!MINE SURE DID NOT..)IT ALSO KEEPS YOUR SKIN DRY THUS LESS SWEATING OR HUMID ENVIRONMENT FOR THE FUNGUS TO DWELL IN. IT HAS A STRONG SMELL LIKE VICKS BUT IT'S A SMALL PICE TO PAY TO GET YOUR NORMAL SKIN BACK. TRY IT. YOU HAVE NOTHING TO LOOSE.-- posted by right1 » sparkle2extreme - Simple Answer In response to Simple Answer posted by right1:Wow I'm glad I found this message board, I've learned alot more on this site than I have on others. So I'm a new victem of tinea versicolor and that has been confirmed by my doctor 2 months ago. The spots started showing up at the beginning of this year and so far only appear on my upper arms near the sholder. It started slow but over the last month I'd wake up and the spots would be twice as big as they were the night before, its horrible. The doctor pretty much told me its common but hard to treat. I was devistated. He gave me a prescription of ketoconazole pills that I took daily for just under a month. He didn't tell me to do anything else. It was frusterating to think that you're fixing the proplem by doing all you've been told but the spots get bigger and bolder every day. So I started doing my own research online. The first thing I found was to use Selsun Blue every day, from all the reviews I've read, that seems to be the #1 cure. Some said to leave it on for 10 minutes and rinse it off, others said to leave it on over night and rinse in the morning. I used it every day for about 3 weeks on my skin for 10 minutes and still the spots were multiplying like crazy. Then I decided to leave the shampoo on over night and woke up with my arms BURNING. They felt stiff like i had the worst sun burn ever. After I rinsed off the selsun I notice how badly the shampoo had burnt my skin, literally. It was weird, the white spots that were the worse also seemed to be where the burn was most severe, it was red, completely scabbed over already and hurt like HECK. I used vitamin e cream for about a week and the burn is finally gone with the exception of a few spots where it may have left a scar, its still too early for me to tell. I can't say for sure how I developed this to begin with but i strongly suspect it was from a tanning bed (and I don't know if thats possible, but thats my common sense assumption), because I used a tanning bed regularly 2-3 times a week at my local gym (of all places). So for the last month and a half I've completely stopped tanning, I was fairly dark before and so the spots were very evident. Now that I've faded significantly the spots seem to blend in but now I'm at the point where I dont know what to do next and its frusterating. I'm finished the pills, I still use selsun blue daily only for 10 mins max on the skin, I wash my clothes in hot water and never wear the same thing twice. As well as my sheets. I can't bare to wear sleeveless tops and its horrible because summer is just around the corner and I'm worried this will just get worse when I begin to tan in the sun again. Anyways, that is my experience to date, I hope I offered some light to anyone who's also has this horrible skin fungus, your not alone, it SUCKS cuz I'm such a self concious person and love showing off my skin, which is now being covered by t-shirts I havent worn in years. -- posted by sparkle2extreme » Sweet_S20 - Very Frustrating!! Hi,I've been having tinea versicolor probably about 5 or 6 years. I can actually say what I have, back then I didn't know what these white spots were on my stomach and lower back and underneath my breasts were. I finally went to the Dematologist last year and she prescribe me an anti-fungal cream along with Ketconazole pills. Unfortunately it hasn't done anything and my skin is exactly the same. Thankfully it has not spread though. Can someone help me, I don't want to spend any more $ on these doctors that don't seem help. -- posted by Sweet_S20 » judyw4ever - Tinea Treatment 3 members of my family have it. I am a 45 year old woman and both my 22 year old and 15 year old sons also have it. I didn't get it until I was close to 30, and I lived in Florida at the time.Although I haven't found a CURE, I sure have a couple of remedies that will give a temporary cure. Prevention is always the best. I break out the most when it is humid. When I've been squating on my knees in my garden while wearing just shorts, I break out behind my knees. I bath multiple times a day during humid days. I also use body powder to keep my body dry. When kneeling in my garden, I either wear pants or put something wherever I get skin to skin contact. That prevents some sweat. I wish I could take a pill. If this is so common, you would think someone could come up with something better. -- posted by judyw4ever » linehopper - Tinea Treatment I've been searching for 18 years on what kind of rash my husband gets. Sometimes he doesn't get it on his back and shoulders for 6 months, then all of the sudden it will show up. It doesn't matter what time of the year. I use Lotrimin on him that i buy at Walmart, it takes care of it just using it once, then out of the blue it'll come back months later. I have a feeling it's this condition called Tenea. I had no idea where to search or what to search for. I stumbled across this forum and am glad i did. I'm going to have him try these different things others tried on the forum.Thanks. -- posted by linehopper » kevster1049 - Tinea Treatment In response to Tinea Treatment posted by linehopper:I have had tinea versicolor for about the past 8 years. I have used Daktarin anti fungal cream, with little success then I read somewhere about using anti dandruff shampoo as a body wash. I bought Nizoral (although apparantly Selsun blue works also). Different sites give different methods of application but I lathered it on dry skin with a little water then left it for 10 minutes, then washed it off. I continued this for 2 weeks, daily and it's gone! Good luck! -- posted by kevster1049 » squiela - This is supposed to be a cure! Saprox is a natural antifungal mud that kills fungus and yeast on skin. This fungal skin infection treatment product is all natural without preservatives or additives. The high sulfur content in this lake bottom mud is the active ingredient. A very small amount is all that is needed to treat fungal infections. After a few treatments, the infection that plagued your skin is gone. This is the claim I found at the following website: http://www.healthegoods.com/content/anti... Has any one tried it. I have had this fungus infection for about 20 yrs and am ready to get rid of it. I think I will try it. I will let everyone know if it works. -- posted by squiela » khairulb - TV- I hate it I'm a 24 yr old female. I have asian blood but living in the states. I have had tinea for the past 7 years. It doesnt hurt at all, maybe itchy sometimes depending on the weather. The cosmetic issue bothers me the most. I have tried everything, itraconzale for 2 months, some lotions and didnt work. My doctor prescribed me with lamisil tablet for a week, theres some reaction and it seemed better. But the cost for lamisil is $3XX.XX for 2 weeks. A little too much for me. So I am trying something that is less expensive(GRIFULVIN)and I will keep you guys updated with the result. So if you have extra $$ you might want to try lamisil.-- posted by khairulb » guitarguy420 - This is supposed to be a cure! In response to This is supposed to be a cure! posted by squiela:I'm 27 and have had TV for about 6 years now on and off. I have tried everything you can think of. The Sporonox that I was prescribed by a dermitologist did the job completely, but the pills cost 190 dollars US (not covered by any insurance because its not life threatening) and within a year the problem was right back again. I have tried the selsin blue theory and that didn't work so great either. Then I found this website claiming a "natural" cure for it and decided to try it as it was only 30 bucks or so. This stuff is *mud*. Literally Mud from the bottom of a lake bed. You smear this mud all over your body (my TV effects me from neck to midsection) and you feel like you just stemped out of a swamp. Let the mud dry on your skin (about 10-15 mins) and then wash it off real good and put some lotion on. I have done 3 applications so far and my "blotches" are thining out so much you can hardly see them anymore. I am really convinced that this product works, but who knows for how long. Websites out there selling it claim that "several users have never had re-occurances since using this product" but I will believe that when I see it. Bottom line, if you're looking for something new that isn't available at walmart or walgreens, try Saprox. It's been doing great for me, and if it is a cure-all I will be soooooooooooo happy. The spots don't bother me, but it's tough to get chicks when your chest looks polka-dotted and very unpleasant to the eye. Good luck -- posted by guitarguy420 » khairulb - This is supposed to be a cure! In response to This is supposed to be a cure! posted by guitarguy420:I just bought 'natural shampoo' too. Will try it tonight and we'll see how it turns out. -- posted by khairulb « Previous 1 2 3 4 Next » Please follow the guidelines set forth in the Suite101 Posting Etiquette when adding to the discussion. |
