» Nancy_Coulter - wonderful!

mike, that was a great article! it reminded me a lot of when i went through that stage and how my father dealt with it.

my parents are divorced and i grew up with my mother having custody. however, there were many weekends spent with dad where i had to deal with "woman things" that he felt uncomfortable about.

i will never forget the first time that i had to worry about swimming while on my period. dad wanted to take us to the local water park. fun, right? well, not for a 12 year old who just started puberty and never used a tampon before in her life. it took me a while to finally tell dad what was going on, and he was good about it. i ended up only doing some of the water rides and i kept out of the wave pool that day. he made sure that my brothers didn't give me a hard time about not participating in the family fun. they didn't know what was going on... and i didn't want them to either.

» ahunter - Single Fathers and Daughters

Over the past year, I have been writing a story about a single father raising a daughter so found it interesting to read your views. (I also talked some with my dad about his experiences, as he was a widower when I was growing up.) Good article!

» brucewebber - toxic shock syndrome and tampons

Mike,

As a single Dad, I appreciate the support u provide from your experience.

I would like to point out that using tampons is controversial. They cause Toxic Shock Syndrome (I think I remember that correctly). They are also bleached and therefore contain dioxin which is a carcinogen.

Women options which present less risk. I know some women who use reusable cloth pads for health and environmental reasons. My GF uses the rinse water from her clothe pads to water her house plants because it is high in nitrogen.

» _Mike_ - girl problems, when you don't know what to do

I'm a single dad, with 4 sons and 1 daughter. My daughter being the youngest of my children I had never had this problem before. My daughter started her period about two months ago but I didn't know about it until last week when my sister, her aunty, told me.I actually found it a bit upsetting that my own daughter couldn't tell me after two months.I tried to talk to her about it but she was to embarrassed.I know that she is having problems with cramps but if she won't talk to me about it, what can I do?I told her to go to her aunty if she needed any help but she insists she doesn't want to.I want to help her but she won't let me, I'm really at a loss on what to do about this.If ANYONE out there has any suggestions about what I could do about this please email me, I'd be very grateful.

I believe that if you sit your daughter down and admit to her that you don't truly know how to help her, then let her know that your want willing to work with her she just maybe able to open up. Also try letting her know that boys go through puberty problems too. I hope this helps a little bit.
