» Aviella - Great topic!

this is a great topic, Gloria. I took a course in "voluntary simplicity" a couple of years ago, and your article reminded me of some decisions I made then, for doing things like cutting down on the chemicals in my household and foregoing the daily paper. Small changes, but important ones. I look forward to reading more.

» jerrib - Retirement is only a few years off

so these ideas really hit home. I already find myself handing things down to my kids to make life simpler. If I'd only done it sooner!

Thank you, Terrie! I hope that I can provide some insight on what country life is like, from a simple living point of view, and maybe even inspire people to examine their own lifestyles and their impact upon the environment and the society around them.

Thank you, JB! Of course, you realize that passing along your "stuff" to your kids only complicates their lives! ;-) Actually, depending on the ages of the kids, it can save them a lot of money, not acquiring things for themselves.

Good luck in your retirement planning.

» lauraphillips - Great topic, great article

Great job, Gloria. I'm overdue for my annual "simplicity assessment, and this was a good reminder for me.

» cmryor - Great Topic!

Hi Gloria,

I love this topic idea. I am a young single mother who is still in the process of getting her degree, so it will be a while before I can do the homesteading thing, but I would love to do just that someday!

I have an Internet magazine on simple & natural living, if you would like to check it out: www.simpleplanet.net.

» kate1031 - try a working homesteading vacation

Elderly, experienced homesteading couple offers room and board in exchange for 4 hours work per day at small organic farm in Munfordville, KY.

If you know of anyone who would like to swap this kind of homesteading work vacation, please pass this message on to them.

Work consists of gardening and/or carpentry. Plus you will learn lots of good stuff!

Can provide pop-up camper accomodations or use your tent or camper. Min. stay 4 days, maximum stay? Or will exchange a camping holiday for same work exchange deal.

Lots of things to do around here providing you have a car or you can learn to do stained glass in your off time as we have a stained glass studio here.

» tedandtracy - try a working homesteading vacation

Would love to take you up on this, but I have too many animals to live in a tent! If you know of anyone with a house to stay in, in exchange for the same type of work, let me know. Good luck...
