CELEBRATING WOMEN IN ISLAMRead the article this discussion is about
This archived discussion is "read only". » Binte - Re: .... In response to .... posted by hawknut:Thanks for the compliment about the article As for women today - I think it would be a case of women in my personal community circle that I look up to. From a Muslim's point of view, a role model is someone who lives the style of life Islam encourages. Naturally, the best role models then are the women I mentioned, because we believe they were holy personalities who were sent as examples for all times. I mentioned Bintal Huda because she was a writer and appealed to my specific interest. Another Muslim may mention some other woman - a politician, a doctor - anyone really. The aim today is not to pick a person - because no one is perfect - but to recognise the admirable qualities in different people and then try to emulate them. So if I was to answer the question you asked, I would say I admire my grandmother, my mother, my sisters, some teachers and a few special friends - all of whom have influenced me in various ways with their strong sense of principle and integrity. In addition to that, any woman who lives a life honest to her self and her gender is someone to respect and admire!
