In response to message posted by Pinky102:

He's harmed Islam because whatever he preaches is not true view of Islam and for a non-Muslim it may be almost impossible to differentiate between what is and isn't accepted by the faith.

The paragraphs hawknut pasted show a great example of this. I mean, on one hand, we (Muslims)are trying to explain what Islam truly is and on the other you get people like Farakhan contradicting what we say.

How can I expect a person to believe that Islam is a peaceful faith that was originally rejected by the Arabs because it preached total equality, while that same person hears Farakhan and his like saying things such as "White people are potential humans…they haven’t evolved yet" ?

That's why I find it sad. Everything he says is tainted by his own personal bias and I wonder how I can ever go around re-explaining things when I don't even know how many out there believe the version of Islam he is trying to promote.

None of that sounds like the Farakhan I've seen and listened to.

I'll watch and listen more carefully in the future.

We have a similar problem Binte.... I think most people do understand the differences with radical zealots bent on bringing violence and destruction. I believe the vast majority of people understand these things but fail to act on what is right. If we would follow the advice of the apostle Paul and get involved and make things right.

Galatians 6:9
And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

That would be the best thing to do, PJ and if you need more info on anything ... just ask smile

I'll make sure whatever I share is based on fact and historical proof so you can always check it out with another source!

It was great that you brought him up though, we haven't really been exposed to him in this region (Kenya) so much of the stuff I came across was a shock.

At least now I know. Thanks!

Are you really in Kenya?

What's going on over there that you want to share? What kind of information do you seek about this part of the world?

Yesterday was our most important national holiday, Independence Day. We had a bang up time here in America!!

Regarding the Honorable Farakhan, you might be getting a different view than I've seen on American television where he talks to a congregation in Chicago, Illinois. I can't defend or oppose him as I have no personal knowledge of the man. I do know that he has some qualities of genius and it is easy to see that he has a great mind.

Yes, really from Kenya smile

There's so much going on here right now, especially in politics, that I wouldn't know where to start from!

I think we get to see more of the world from here (through the media) than the world gets to see of us.

Happy Belated Independence Day by the way smile

I'd probably be better off asking you if there's anything you'd like to know about life over here - just drop me a line and I'll have oodles to tell! smile

You're right about different perspectives on Farakhan. I'll be looking into more of his stuff so I can know exactly what he says.

In response to message posted by Binte:

I'm noticing the idiom you used, oodles, which was used in American when I was a child some sixty years ago.

Your grammar is excellent. Is the language of Kenya English? How would you classify your English useage?

What social levels are there in your culture--upper class, middle class, lower class and others? What is the dominant media to which you are exposed as a people? What's the form of government you live with? What is the educational system as an institution in your culture? Do you have a "state religion" or can you practice whatever religion you might choose? What about the press--is it censored?

I could go on and on. But, if you just answer these questions, I'll have a good idea of Kenya. Maybe?

» Binte - About Kenya

In response to message posted by Pinky102:

I didn't know 'oodles' dated 60 years back ... my English tends to blend American and British and my expressions, like those of many others here, come from whatever I pick from the media smile

I will answer all your questions PJ, but if you don't mind, I'll email them over so they don't clash with the Shiasm Explained topic.

There's so much to tell, I could probably make a whole series of articles out of it!

If there's anyone else who'd like to know more about Kenya ( from my perspective smile ) just drop me a line and I'd be glad to oblige.

I really enjoy reading your articles too.The content as well as style of writing is very impressive.smile

Thank you for your attempts in clearing the misunderstandings that people have about Islam. The likes of Farakhan will always be around but at least you know you have tried!

Your article on Anger is one that a lot of us need and I especially appreciated the suggested solutions.

Looking foward to your next article.
