Sacrifice is the result of inner strength. The ability to give up what you want, so that others may have what they need. It is a secret pact between you and God and needs no encouragement from the people involved.

The "secrecy" portion of the sacrificing resonated with me. Christianity speaks of sacrificing without "letting your right hand know what your left hand is doing".

I think that the strength of what you describe as a pact between the person and God, ultimately determines how much a person is willing to surrender to God.
