» quasar - I think you hit on one reason many people don't register

Hi Krissi,

I think you hit on one good reason why people don't register - they have it on their machines at work. I am pretty good about shareware. I sometimes use a little bit longer than the prescribed 15 or 30 days, but if I evaluate shareware and like it I pay for it. But not if I only use it on my work machine. I refuse to pay for work software out of my own pocket. I don't think this is unreasonable, and assume most people feel this way.

Some companies are reluctant to pay shareware registration fees, especially for common applications like WinZip. But at the same time, people can't properly do their jobs without various shareware programs so they don't want to delete them after the evaluation period. Yes, we all know that an employer should pay a shareware fee for all of this software, but generally they don't. This leaves the following choice: remove the software and do the job in a less productive way or keep unregistered shareware on a work machine. That is a tough decision for a conscientious person to make.

Just some food for thought,

Janice

» RVLifestyle - You got me ...

I have about 6 shareware applications that I use fairly regularly and they are all registered. I have to admit that I totally forgot about WinZip and I couldn't live without it! Gotta get this done this week!

» Krissi - WinZip at Work

Janice: I agree with you. After I noticed my copy of WinZip wasn't registered on my work machine, I submitted a request to remedy the problem. As of yet, I haven't heard any kind of response. I think they generally just don't care whether or not the software is registered.

Donna: I know what you mean. :-) Even my own husband had been using WinZip for a year and never registered it. It's kind of funny those little things we forget.

Regards!
