Hi Susan,

I couldn't help but chuckle when I read your opinion of Calista Flockhart's performance in the recent film version of a Midsummer's Night Dream. I haven't seen the movie, but I did see her, about a year before she hit the big-time on t.v., in a stage performance of Romeo & Juliet. She was dreadful--heaving her little body and breathily exclaiming, "Oh Roo-meeee-oooo." My husband and I were laughing so hard we had to leave.

Thanks for your comments smile

I don't know, maybe I'm being unfair to her. I think I'm comparing her to Emma Thompson's performance on stage, hers was the best Helena I've seen.

Flockhart was just so hyper, she made me hate her character

I'll caste my vote for the 1935 version with Mickey Rooney and Olivia de Havilland... somehow Folkhart, Michelle Pfeiffer and Kelvin Kline just haven't got IT ( SHAKESPEARE ) Thanks Classical Diva

I was disappointed in Kevin Kline too. I always like him, but not here.

I insisted that my husband and I rent it to watch at home. Normally, I love Shakespeare on film, but this time I fell promptly asleep. I don't think I was even that tired.

Sounds like I didn't miss much.

Thanks-
'tricia

Hi Tricia smile

If you haven't rented the 1935 filmed version of A Midsummer Night's Dream, mentioned above, you should. It is very entertaining and is available on video.
