Shakespearean actors
This archived discussion is "read only". « Previous 1 2 Next » » billie0 - Re: Shakespearean Actors In response to message posted by pavcrawphan:Kevin Spacey played Buckingham in Al Pacino's Looking for Richard. This was a docu-drama about Pacino researching the roll. He's too young for King Lear I could handle Johnny Depp as Hamlet. Back in the 1980s, I saw "An Evening With Ian McKellan" on PBS and it remains in my memory just about the best Shakespeare I've ever seen. There have been questions here on how to best expose Shakespeare to children. Well, a good actor is a good answer. McKellan recites the words conversationally (is that a word?) and uses the stage casually. You forget about the "language barrier" and become ingrossed in the story.

That would be interesting. -- posted by pavcrawphan » pavcrawphan - Re: Re: Shakespearean Actors In response to message posted by billie0:I'm sure with some make-up Spacey could pull of the role of King Lear even though he is a bit young for it. -- posted by pavcrawphan » billie0 - Re: Re: Spacy as Iago? In response to message posted by pavcrawphan:I'm wondering if Denzel Washington could pull it off. He did so well in Much Ado About Nothing. But, maybe he's too nice for Othello :D Ving Rhames could handle it I bet, I like anything he does.

I like the idea of Samuel Jackson in the role. Kate Winslet - what a great suggestion for Desdemona! I also thought maybe Claire Danes or Gwyneth Paltrow. Danes really looks the part. What about Winona Ryder as Iago's 2-faced wife? Could she pull it off? 'tricia -- posted by Tricia_S » pavcrawphan - Re: Re: Re: Re: Spacy as Iago? In response to message posted by Tricia_S:I think Winona Ryder is a great suggestion for the role of Iago's wife. Although I have to disagree with paltrow or danes in the role of Desdemona. I think Winslet would be the best choice here. -- posted by pavcrawphan » billie0 - Kate Winslet To many people I talk to, Kate Winslet seems to be a very popular choice for any of the Shakespearean heroines. She did such a good job in Hamlet that I can definitely see why. She would be a great Desdemona.I am not convinced at how well Winona Ryder would play Shakespeare. I was not impressed with her in Dracula.
