Re: light...can you rig a flourescent light of any kind? I use an old drafting board light over my tiny little heat mat inside, which I use for starting stuff that would like bottom heat. Although the lamp hasn't been changed in eons, it still provides enough light for most plants - plus, you can adjust the height pretty easily.
