I enjoyed this article very much. Thank you for this wonderful reference.-- posted by bilbobwn » Marge_Talt - Re: Great Article In response to message posted by bilbobwn:Hi Sue, You are so right. I've learned that leaves are actually the most important element, since they are with us either the entire season - or if evergreen - always. I'm delighted you enjoyed the article! Thanks for the kind words. -- posted by Marge_Talt » sharenclark - Hi from warm N Fl Hi Marge,The article was very informative. When we first moved here in the woods, My sister and I looked up all the different trees we found. Sometimes the only way we could really tell if the trees were the same species was by the bark as the leaves were similar but different just like you noticed. It can be confusing if you don't have a reference book or something to help you. The weather here has been so warm I hope the trees won't try to leaf out early and get hurt when we finaly have some cool weather. My water lily is still trying to bloom and it should be dormant. I'm going to have to pull it out of its pondlet and feed it and clean out the pondlet if this keeps up. Keep up the good articles. Sharen. -- posted by sharenclark » Marge_Talt - Re: Hi from warm N Fl In response to message posted by sharenclark:Hi Sharen, Thanks! I'm glad you found the article informative. I agree, trying to identify a tree - or even any plant, actually, just from the leaves can be tough. Leaves help, but since they seem to vary so much, even on the same plant, you really have to have other guides...bark, buds, flowers, etc. to zero in on an I.D. Weather here has also been much warmer than normal for this time of year and I'm also concerned about plants hardening off properly so that when old Ma Nature zaps us (which I am sure she will) there isn't massive damage. I've got hellebores coming into bloom!! Shouldn't really see this until late next month at the earliest. And, my Forsythia is in full bloom..it's really confused! Last few days have been cooler. If it would just sort of cool down gradually...but, there's not a lot we can do but hope on our end. Most plants will recover, even if they do get some damage...strange weather tho'. -- posted by Marge_Talt
