I have two, white and rose pink. They must be the the easiest of flowering shrubs. Too exuberant, I have to be very strict with the pruners. I usually cut late Winter.

They never seem to get anything wrong with them and just happily flower for a few weeks in late Spring and then again in Autumn

I do not like the yellow leaves, it does clash for me :-]

Hi Gay,

How big do your shrubs want to get? They are real "old faithfuls", aren't they?...never anything wrong with them and the deer even leave mine alone!

I know what you mean about those gold leaves. If the flowers were, perhaps, a more orange shade of red/pink...more a salmon, they would go better with the foliage, I think. Have you ever seen that one in person? I haven't and wonder if it comes across the same in person as in a photograph.

I always look awful in photos, shows how vain I am. I forbid the taking any more!

I don't know if I have seen one or not. I do have one that was in the town garden, with white and green variegated leaves and a very pale pink flower. It has a lightening effect and is very pretty.

There is a Rhododendron "President Roosevelt [sp?] that has yellow-green leaves and deep rose flowers. I think you may have it growing? Sorry, if you have, but that is another one that I don't like

Oh Gay!
LOL! I tend to break cameras, which is why there are very few photos of me in this world:-) I don't believe you, however, as I have seen your photo and thought it very nice!

That white and green variegated is, I think, one of the 'Variegatas' out there - seem to be two or three of them...and, with my love of variegated foliage, one of them is on my lust list.

No, don't have that rhodie. When mine have yellow-green leaves, it's on account of chlorosis:-) I was actually fairly surprised to learn that there are rhodies with variegated leaves as well as ones with fragrance...learn something new on the net all the time. Do you have any with variegated leaves?

» Gay_Klok - NO!!!

It is funny but I learnt to appreciate SOME patterned leaves quite late in my gardener's life. But I only know of one Rhododendron and as I grow some Rhs for their leaves, huge size, silver or cinnamon indentum, new leaves with brown-pink colouring, I think P Rooseveldt looks sick

I don't know if the Weigela is W florida "Aureovariegata" - I am looking in a book - the white-cream [in our bush] is not nearly as yellow as in the photo

Talking photos, the photos in my signature were flowers gathered in the town garden yesterday and scanned "live"

» Marge_Talt - Maybe:-)

Well, Gay, I'm a confirmed variegated leaf nut of the first water. Just about any variegated leaf will get me to stop in my tracks. I think this might be partly due to gardening in the dark, where variegation makes life and the garden so much more interesting, esp. in the dog days of summer when there are few blooms in my climate in the shade. Don't think I've ever seen even a photo of rhodie 'P. Rooseveldt', but yellow leaves on this genus always say "sick" to me, too.

The descriptions I've read of the variegated W. florida always say "yellow", but the photos I've seen of some look pretty creamy to me. Wonder if there isn't some variation among clones?

Your scanned flowers are so lovely! A really great scan - the composition as well as the actual blooms! While we bake away here, it's hard to remember you're in winter where you are.
