Welcome home, Sonni!

Sounds like you had a ball in Florida. Your cousin's garden does sound devine. Did you take any photos of it? Wanna post them if you did so we can all drool? Send them on to me if you've got any.

Do you know the botanical name for that vine? Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow doesn't ring a bell with me.

New York may be far removed from the tropics, but I can see where the one light you're going to rig will multiply and you will end up with a good sized "tropical corner" in your apartment! I bet there are even orchids you could grow inside with some lights! I have managed to kill a couple in my time - from basic neglect and ignorance - but I remember they grew in a mat of fiber hanging on the wall. If humidity is needed, what about the bathroom? You can do it!!!

LOL re: your pink bubble parcels and I can just see you chasing the cat while it is madly swallowing string! Just like a cat. String probably wouldn't hurt it and, if it's like most cats, it would decide to barf it up in the middle of your bed in the middle of the night! But, I can empathize with the hysteria of trying to get something done and having to cope with the crisis du jour.

I should think two layers of even thin bubble wrap should do it. If we have a mild winter, that may even be overkill. If not, and it gets bitter, you can always go out and throw an old comforter over the whole pile. You will get a much better feel for what works after this winter, I should think.

It may be your late blooming annual was just waiting for cooler weather? What is it?

Brugs is short for Brugmansia or Angel's Trumpet. If you haven't seen this, here's a site with links to scads of mouth watering photos of the incredible flowers. I have lusted after this one for several years and just got two infants last summer.

They are sun plants, tho' some of the gang have grown them in part sun.

Are you going to try to plant the big seeds you picked up on the beach to see if they will grow? wonder what they are?
