» CBJ - What are your thoughts?

David Brin's solution to the Fermi Paradox is fascinating but far-fetched. What are your thoughts on the subject? Feel free to share your ideas with other Science Fiction and Society readers!

Why is there a great silence? I do believe there is life out among the stars. We’d be arrogant to believe we’re alone. David Brin’s idea is an intriguing, if fantastic idea. This might be a fanciful premise also, but maybe there are civilizations out in space, but they don’t contact us because we’re too primitive by their standards. The classic movie “The Day the Earth Stood Still” had the aliens contact us when we reached a certain level. Maybe that’s what they're waiting for. That’s one of my thoughts. More likely it’s as the article stated. Civilizations rise and fall in temporal isolation. Maybe none are able to get past their self destructive stages. Or maybe, like the Ancients in “Stargate SG-1,” the advanced civilizations have moved on to bigger things.
