Actually, I think all of the Star Trek series have excellent examples of friendship. In the original series, we have Kirk and Spock. In The Next Generation, as you observed, we have Geordi and Data. And in the Voyager series, we have the Doctor and Seven. Well, I guess I can't speak for the Deep Space series or the newest one, because I haven't seen either of them....
