» Robert - Thanks

Elizabeth

Thanks for the review! I have not seen the movie yet, now I will definitely take a pass. Excellent timing to, with the video/DVD comic to direct market.

Keep up the great work!

P.S. Don't forget to subscribe to my topic, Comics!

P.P.S. Where did you get the great pictures? Please email me directly about this.

» Sunbear - Planet of the Apes remake

Hi Elizabeth,

What a great review!

Love the way you covered the ins and outs of this movie--just the right blend of criticism and information about the movie.

Furthermore, your comments "go somewhere;" that is they are incisive and meaningful and add to my
artistic sensibilities and perceptions.

Really enjoyed your writing. Subscribed and will be back.

Sincerely,
Tom Martin

In response to message posted by Sunbear:

I don't like Tim Burton as a rule and this wasn't really my kind of sci-fi, but there were redeeming elements to this flick. Ari was wonderfully played, and so was her "guardian" (never caught his name). The glimpses we got into Ape everyday society were fun: there were enough differences in their take-for-granted dailyness (like writing with feet, casually swinging from branches inside the house while talking, sniffing each other and using grunty/growly noises as part of regular communication, screechy sexual foreplay, and the illustrious waddle-as-walk that somehow never looked low-class).

The Twilight Zone ending was a miss, though. Burton shot for making a statement, but ended up making it incomprehensible. Even after days past my first vieing, I cannot figure out what in hell happened to bring Thade to Earth. Unless it is an alternate timeline where we kept apes on earth instead of in this ship? I did appreciate the irony of the Apes using guns and technology at the end, because that links to the conversation Thade had with his dying father. But Burton's point probably didn't reach most people. It was pretty obscure.

Hary Knowles on AintItCool.com DID like the ending. Go figure. But I can see his points.

Just had the "privilege" of seeing this one and you hit it right on the nose. Bored out of my mind in large sections of it and at other times, was composing dialogue before the actor said the same line.
