» Catana - Can't wait to see it

Thanks for a great review. My son taped it for me because I don't get the SciFi channel. He watched a bit of it and thought it looked good. I didn't know that Vittorio Storaro was involve, so that's definite plus.

I've learned that Lynch's film was originally four hours. Much of the cut footage was lost, so there will never be a real director's cut.

In response to message posted by Catana:

I agree with your review that the original version, Lynch's, was flawed. But after seeing all three parts, I'm not sure this Sci-Fi Dune version is much better. I found they added scenes rather than depth to the story, the missed the point of some of the scenes, choosing them only because they were fight scenes and missing the point of the fight. Like the fight with Jameson. One of the key points they missed was the fact that Paul didn't know how to fight this man because he was use to the style of shield fighting, which required the attack to be slow. He had also never killed a man before, and while this part was mentioned, that's all it was... mentioned. They didn't actually show how it affected him... which was suppose to be the giving of water to the dead, another significant piece that they just glossed over. None of this was shown. The whole test to be human Gom Jabbar was missed too.

I'm afraid given the choice, I'd almost prefer the original Dune movie over this one.
