Welcome to the Suite Jewel Ann. Your topic is a fascinating one. I did some research earlier in the fall on Seeing-Eye dogs and other types of service dogs. Their history is quite remarkable (like the animals themselves) and their roles invaluable. I look forward to seeing what future topics you will cover.

Hi Jewl, and welcome to Suite101!

I think information on service dogs is very needed to educate the public about the importance of these dogs. Good on you for doing it! Looking forward to reading more you and Target!

Cheers,
Glenda

Hi.......am I happy to see this page take on. I have been training my own service dog, and would like to see more info addressing training your own service dog, as well as other infos pertaining to service dogs in general.

In response to message posted by Othello:
The Foxy Lady has been at my side 4 years as of next month. In this case she trained me very well. Rescued her as a baby and she was with me when I had a bad fall, she was 11 mos.of age. When I tried to train her in public, she took over and did a very good job of taking care of me and showing me who was boss. Have only had one bad fall since, that was because I did not mind her. She is also a diabetic alert, I am Hypo Diabetic.

Patience and consistency is the real key to training an animal, plus lots of love.
