Yes, referred pain is present in lots of problems--appendicitis is one that comes to mind immediately, with pain elsewhere than in the lower abdominal quadrant. There are so many commercials in the States on PAD and even one of the well known cardiologists speaks on the commercial, so folks here should be pretty well instructed by now of what to watch for. Fortunately doctors and nurses are up to speed on vague pain. I do think most people seek care, especially if pain becomes too bad. I have never been one to run to the doctor. I really have to be terribly ill to go--my wait limit is usually 72 hours, sometimes longer, and by that time I am usually better. You are correct about varicose vein surgery. It is seldom effective and I would not have it unless there was a clot problem. I have a lot of spider veins and a few vericosities, but they are small and not painful. Thank you for your very good links. virginia -- posted by Dubh_Sidhe
