Yes again Sonia! We have a network here that connects local farmers (and other food producers) with restaurants that want to use locally produced foodstuffs. Just one of many ways to support local businesses. I also try to shop smaller locally owned specialty shops (as opposed to mega-stores like Walmart). These smaller stores are sure to have a better selection of what you are looking for - be it books or bedsheets - than a huge retailer that carries just a few. Books are actually the best example. Mega retailers have just a few books to spur on your impulse buying; and super-chain bookstores may have thousands of books but they lack the knowledge of what is needed in your local area. Service at local shops is also far preferable to surly department store help.
I wonder what your position is on buying second hand? I will continue to read with great interest.

In response to message posted by Ambermusic31:
Ooooh, I LOVE buying second hand - all of my kids clothes and shoes are bought that way (with very few exceptions). Why not? It's cheaper, it's recycling and it's not adding to the capatalist consumerism about the place (well, we're still buying but it's not the same). I love junk shops, recycle centres, Goodwill stores etc. If you're interested, see my article "Living on Less" - I think from memory I wrote a bit about it in there.
Thanks for writing!
