Sonia - I have just started to read your work and I love it! I agree with you that we need to look at last years events with a much larger lens.
I am an American and live in a rural area. I have begun to realize just how much of ourselves we give up to have the luxuries that we (as Americans) take for granted. I have also realized that many of the 'luxuries' that we allow ourselves to have build a barrier between us and the true richness and fullness that this world has to offer. I have rededicated my life to the pursuit of a simpler life.
We (as a society) work 50-60 hour weeks (or more) to buy things we don't need and will soon discard. This schedule keeps us away from our families and too exhausted to be proactive about anything. It is a sad world where people spend more time with their co-workers than with their own spouses and children.
I do not have to tell you the impact that our thoughtless consumption has on the rest of the world. I just wish that more people were in touch with this reality and the negative picture that it paints of Americans in the rest of the world.
I look forward to reading more of your work in the future!
