What MAY I publish?
This archived discussion is "read only".
» radio - Local History Do's and Don'ts needed Hi Folks, I am researching a tiny book of about 50-80 pages which will feature small town Ontario's long vanished corner stores. I wish to put a pic on one page and opposite it copy. Must I get legal permission to take and publish pictures of what are now private homes? My research has been most fruitful and I have dozens of anecdotes about various stores of the past. Must I devise some sort of release to use these stories in my self published book? I sure would appreciate some straight forward direction. Thanks. Radio-- posted by radio » DonnaM_9 - From my experience Hi Radio,I'm glad to hear your research has been fruitful. From my experience with working with photographs and photographers, a "model" release form needs to be created and signed by the owner of the house. If you need an example of a release for, please let me know and I'll be happy to send you one. Hope this helps. Does that make sense? The rules in Canada are probably similar; why not check with your local college of journalism? I would watch out for details like an address showing in the photo. I used to work as a television producer and that was always a concern when shooting footage. -- posted by Schmoopy
