We are still trying to dig out from a blizzard which hit us yesterday and which raged all night. We have a New Year's Eve potluck at church at 6 tonight, with less than half the expected crowd. Only the people on the main city arteries were able to get there. Most of the city buses are running again, but the residential areas will take a couple of days to dig out.

New Year's Day, our Lieutenant General, the Queen's representative for Manitoba, holds open house at the Legislative Building in the afternoon, and I am very lucky that my bus goes straight there. So that is where I am headed to listen to the Airforce Band, the Police Choir, and various other bands and choirs, and to be served fruitcake and shortbread, mulled apple cider and eggnog by members of the Manitoba Historical Society in pioneer period costumes.

I would never plan anything else for New Year's Day for as long as I live in Winnipeg.

And here is a New Year's celebration which one of my readers sent me, and the card will probably expire in a month. In the meantime, have fun, popping the balloons to bring on the New Year. Just prick each balloon with the pin, one at a time.

Well, at least you've had snow. Where I live, so far, we have not had any snow so far this winter. I don't enjoy blizzards, but a little snow that covers the lawn is nice. By the way, enjoyed the balloons! Happy New year!
