Great article, but I'd have to disagree that new users should go to excite. Infoseek lets you ask a question, just like you'd ask a person. As a matter of fact, it works better when you do. Instead of just typing keywords, ask it what you want to know. It can't get easier than that.

Thanks for your nice words and your interest.

Infoseek is one of the best and most user-friendly search engines. Its ability to understand full questions is a definitely a big help to new users.

Excite's big advantage is its ability to easily narrow a search. Its "more like this" option after each result actually performs a search for documents similar to the one you like. Another feature which is very useful to new users is Excite's menu-based "Power Search." No commands need be learned.
