» meredithparish99 - location advice I am a certified diver and am wanting to take a trip soon but unfortunately do not have a clue where to go. I live in Maryland currently but am looking for somewhere exotic to dive. Does anyone have any suggestions based on experience?-- posted by meredithparish99 » Linda_Gettmann - Re: location advice In response to message posted by meredithparish99:Hi Meredith, You don't say what your budget is, sometimes that determines the destination, but some great spots would be Riding Rock Inn, San Salvador Bahamas, Turks & Caicos, Cozumel, USVI or BVI, and further afield, Belize, Honduras, Fiji and Micronesia. -- posted by Linda_Gettmann » Greybeard_MD - Re: location advice In response to message posted by meredithparish99:A useful response depends upon how much time and money you have - the more of both, the better the possibilities. I'm able to travel for diving 3 or 4 times each year, often by myself but sometimes with one of my daughters. One of my objectives is to keep my costs, including airfare, within $300 per day. Travel to fine dive locations in the Caribbean for a week and in the South Pacific for 2 or 3 weeks, staying at very nice (but not luxury) resorts, is possible. However, it's difficult to stay within that figure if a good liveaboard vessel is on the itinerary.

They have a live aboard on a 62' trimaran and over dive tips with 6 free dives, all meals and snacks and immigration fees and taxes for a special price right now until October for only $470. We stayed in the Speyside area for a week and then visited another hotel near town for a couple days after we were through diving. The currents run pretty quick and the visibility wasn't too hot when we were there (Nov.), and we didn't see any mantas, which we were hoping for of course. The accommodations are good and reasonable, the diving was good, but not spectacular. Depends on what you're looking for, but a low-key dive resort, or a fancy hotel can be had for accommodations, and the diving is usually uncrowded and pretty interesting, mostly with some current. Good luck and have a great trip--- -- posted by Linda_Gettmann
