» silvan - freezing rain

Another terrific explanation, Keith, and gorgeous photos to go with it. I learned a lot, as always.

There hasn't been much sign of this, or any other kind of winter weather here in Ontario yet. I haven't seen a snowflake in weeks.

In response to message posted by silvan:

I saw one, I saw one...or should I say a whole bunch. Last week we had a snow flurry around dawn here in Victoria, although I heard that there were several centimetres outside of town.

Anywho...thanks for the interest in the ice storm article. The photos were mostly taken during a 1971 ice storm in Guelph (in the woods/field that used to be south of the Married Student Housing on Stone Road. I have more but they are in slides and have no means of getting them onto jpg format. (I know it can be done, just don't have the resources to do so).

If you want to reprise an eastern Canadian gloat, check out my Weather Doctor articles ( http://www.islandnet.com/~see/weather/do... ) on the Great Victoria Snowstorm of 1996 that will be posted December 15. We received over a metre and a half of snow in three days, if you recall.

Rainbows and a happy holiday season and fulfilling 2002.

Hi Keith,

Silvan posted your link in the Christmas Gift Exchange in the Editor's lounge. I second the gift with a big bow and mistletoe. This is a wonderful article with gorgeous pictures.

Now I'm freezing. I've got to go find my sweater...

Thanks Van,

One of my favorite articles from "Living With Nature" is your piece from last Spring:
Practicing Stillness .

Although it refers to a spring day, I think it is a perfect gift to give during this very hectic season for us all. No better time to take a few moments and practice stillness than the days of the year end holidays. I think I will find a few hours on the Winter Solstice December 21 to be still and refect on the ending of the past solar year.

Rainbows, Happy Holidays and a Creative New Year

Oops, just saw this was a repeat of the previous message. Must have blinded me with that reference to mistletoe.

Thanks, Joy,

North Texas is not that immune, however.
