Briefly, a "sundog" is a parhelion which occurs on one or both sides of the sun at the 22 degree separation. Often they occur as exceptionally bright spots on the 22-deg halo and may not show colour separation. My work journal shows I plan to write about sundogs in August so look for more then. -- posted by weather_doctor
