» Yee - What subjects, exactly, are taboo?

I recently sold a short story to FarsectorSFFH, a Science Fiction internet magazine, which is distributed through Fictionwise.com. I don't recall having a problem with the subject even though it took several submissions and rewrites to get this story accepted. What exactly constitutes a taboo topic? My story deals with the idea of eternity, that there is continuity between past and present, life and death. Even though at the end of the story, the protagonist kills herself. I suppose, by some readers, this could be interpreted as condoning suicide. Do you consider that a taboo topic? If so, it didn't stop the publisher from buying it. The only problem he had with it was the title, which he asked me to change.

That said, the story is called "Petroglyphs" by Deborah L. Cannon. It is online at http://www.fictionwise.com/eBooks/eBook1...

It's a short story, not a novel, but if anyone wants to review it, that would be fine with me.

Deborah
