» gurpsgm - Endgame = End of an Era?

So it's over. And Voyager becomes the latest exhibit in the Starfleet museum.

But I wish the episode had a little more closure. We are teased with what "might have been", but we are never shown what actually occurs.

For instance, we are lead to assume that Tuvok will arrive home in time to be cured of his advancing neurological disorder, but we never see that happening.

We see the beginning of a relationship between Seven of Nine and Chakotay, but we do not know what happens to that relationship in this universe.

Nor do we know what happens when the Federation high command finds out that 7of9 is a reconverted Borg.

And what about Belanna's baby? Is it really the saviour of the Klingons as the renegade Klingons in "Prophecy" assume?

What happens to our Janeway? I have always hated time travel episodes because they leave so much in the air - how does the finale Janeway tell herself to go thru the Borg area if she actually did it anyway?

I'd like to see some idea from fans on this. It appears that they are unwilling to go any farther into the future - the new show, "Enterprise", takes place about one hundred years =before= "Classic" Trek. I believe Scott Bakula will be a great captain, but unless the story lines improve, this show may be the first of the Trek franchises that does not complete it's run. Trek fans know the past, and they will fight to make sure the writers do not change the Federation in any way.

And what about "Star Trek X"? What form will it take now that we know that they do not need to include anything about either "Deep Space Nine" or "Voyager"? Both Patrick Stewart and Brent Spiner have said they do not want to do any more "Trek" movies.

I believe that the future will show that Voyager was the end of an era. The era of Trek. I do not look for them to go back to the "name" sci-fi authors they had during the "classic" Trek era, and I believe that this wil eventually prove to be the death of the franchise.

Lots of fans have moved on to other more original shows such as "Farscape", "Lexx", "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and others.

Hopefully, I'm wrong. I'm an original Trekker, and the =last= thing I want is the end of Trek. But Paramount and the rest of the Powers That Be must decide that it is high time to give us =good= science fiction.

In response to message posted by gurpsgm:

You're right...the Star Trek Powers That Be left a lot of unanswered questions. Although, I can see where they might have been headed with leaving the story like they did.

In a way, it leaves lots of 'possible' storylines and plots that might be later revived in a feature film with the Voyager gang (some years down the road of course).

Yes...both Stewart and Spiner don't want to do anymore Trek films...but...there are plenty more actors and characters from the Star Trek Universe to take their places. smile

I'm not sure about the new series "Enterprise" but... as I've said I'll give it a try before making my choice as to whether it's the end of an era or not.

Thanks for the comments!

» ahunter - Copy of Episode?

Does anyone in the United States have a copy of Endgame, the last episode Star Trek: Voyager? It didn't air on any of the local stations where I live (Nebraska) and I'd like to see it. I'll pay for the copy of a video-cassette and postage. Thanks!

» desertblue - movies

I don't know about having a movie with Voyager characters. Seems like it would come across as forced. And DS9 wouldn't work either since those characters are now scattered (they could do a movie taking place sometime along their run, but not after the last episode.)

And piecing characters together from different shows would also come across as contrived I think.

I don't know. I'd rather have no movie if it wouldn't be a quality one.

Jill,

I agree, while I like all "Trek" I wasn't all that fond of "Generations".

However, in the case of "Voyager" and other casts combining in a movie. I think it would depend on what type of storyline that they had.

Some storylines might work out well, others, you're right, would seem forced.

I haven't heard any more about possible "Voyager" cast cameos in "Star Trek X" though!

Hi,

I'm not sure where you could get a copy. Have you tried the message boards at TrekWeb.com or TrekToday.com?

Sorry I couldn't help further!
