» transNdan - Great Park! Now that you mention it I'd have to agree that Balboa Park is the "Smithsonian of the West". Since I was visiting I only had one day to experience it so I didn't get to see much but what I did see was fantastic and definitely is a must re-visit every time I have a chance until I've seen everything there is to see.My favorite aspect of the park is its climate. San Diego is temperate enough that Balboa can be enjoyed year round. Something that definitely can't be said for the true Smithsonian because it's absolutely pissy in the winter. :-) Jill gave a lot of good advice but one thing that I might add is to make sure you have plenty of film/storage for your camera because you'll need it. There are plenty of things to photograph: architecture, people, plants, etc. -- posted by transNdan » desertblue - Re: Great Park! In response to message posted by transNdan:You know, you're right. The Park is a great place from a photographic standpoint alone. great shadows, exotic settings, wonderful candids of people, children, sidewalk artists, and yes, the animals at the Zoo are also great subjects if you've got a decent telephoto lens. Thanks for the tip! I may have to ask you to write a guest article on photographing Balboa Park... -- posted by desertblue » Roostergrl - Re: Great Park! In response to message posted by LilBitz:Hi Barb! Thanks for the kind words, and do tell me about your trip to San Diego when you return. How much free time will you have there? Where in SD do your relatives live? Spring is a great time to visit. -- posted by desertblue » desertblue - Re: Balboa Park In response to message posted by Thorsen:cute, thorsen. No, the park was built by architects in charge of designing the 1915 Wolrd Exposition. BUT, Balboa did, apparently, discover the area we call San Diego. (Not including the native peoples who were thereifrst, of course) That Balboa guy did get around! -- posted by desertblue
