Convection Oven Cooking
This archived discussion is "read only". » Tudox - What did I do wrong? I just tried baking some frozen chicken patties (a creative dish for my first try!) in my convection oven. As per instructions on the box, I set the temp at 425 and set the time for 12 minutes. The patties around the edges of the pan seemed to get done, but not the ones in the middle. My possible mistakes were: 1) not preheating? or 2) using too large of a pan (it took up almost the entire rack.)I'm totally new at this, so any info or tips would be appreciated! Carolyn Francis -- posted by Tudox » RVLifestyle - Convection Cooking My first thought would be, were the instructions on the box for a conventional oven?I haven't done any baking in my convection/microwave oven so this will be an upcoming article. The one thing I have noticed when using it as a microwave - everything takes a little longer. I would assume the same would apply for the convection side - in fact, I do think someone told us that. Pre-heating would probably be good as well but I think you could try defrosting it first and then the 12 minutes might do okay. I'll post more info here as I find it and I hope some experienced convection cooks (I know we have some out there) will brief us *both*! -- posted by RVLifestyle » Charlotte_Jordan - baking I use the convection oven all the time.Chicken breast is about 20-25 min on the broiling rack, (enter time, touch BROIL, START, when signal, add food, then START) Cookies are baked on foil pizza pans on the baking rack and second tray on the revolving pan. Pre-heat with Auto Mix. (CONVEC pad..temp pad,,,cooking time...start..let preheat, signal, add food, touch start pad) Muffins are done in foil muffin pans, sprayed with oil first. Enchildas are done with pre-heat-convection. (CONVEC pad + temp + time+ start. Good Luck.. I love it. Remember to turn on fan and open window prior to removing food, or the smoke alarm will go off. -- posted by Charlotte_Jordan » RVLifestyle - Smoke alarms & cooking ... We have an under cabinet toaster and my husband likes his toast dark. I have to stand by the smoke alarm prepared to *fan* it whenever he makes toast! Thanks for the great info on the convection oven, Charlotte. I'm still working on an article and if you have any recipe links would love to get them! -- posted by RVLifestyle » Charlotte_Jordan - signals I only make "reservations" and don't hear the smoke alarms..(don't I wish!!!) At least I "used" to before RVing. Now we just do the fan dance,,,around the smoke alarm. Great exercise... Charlotte Jordan -- posted by Charlotte_Jordan » RVLifestyle - LOL! I am so glad we are not the only ones with the smoke alarm issue!Speaking of which, we just moved down the mountain back into Altoona & back to the campground we left last November when they closed. It seems that 2 days after we left, the MH beside us burnt to the ground - around midnight! It melted siding and lights two trailers away. I can't tell you how glad I am that we moved but we have now decided to add a second smoke alarm in the bedroom (this is where our fuse panel is as well as the water pump under our bed - beside the water holding tank). We also are getting familiar with the emergency popout window at the head of our bed. Ten minutes ... remember that folks! -- posted by RVLifestyle Please follow the guidelines set forth in the Suite101 Posting Etiquette when adding to the discussion. |
