» desertblue - good ideas I live in Flagstaff, AZ, at 7,000 feet and am not really looking forward to cold trail runs this winter. BUT I have aquired some great snowshoes made for runners and am excited to give them a go. Let's hope it keeps me heading out there!Jill -- posted by desertblue » Lynn - Re: good ideas In response to message posted by desertblue:Hi Jill - thanks for the comments and for stopping by. Actually, your mention of snowshoes made for running reminded me of Bill, a runner I met, then subsequently wrote about in my running book. He used the snowshoes for the first time as he ran for 24 hours during a blizzard. You may be wondering WHY would he do such a thing... well, he did so in a successful attempt to save his wife - she had been injured and he went to get help. Thanks for stopping by! -- posted by Lynn » miraclerunner - cold weather running If I am going to call myself a runner where I live, I better not dislike running in the cold. I live in the Canadian Prairie province of Alberta. I run year around outdoor here even in minus 30C (= -20F) weather! How do I do it? It's all about having a meaning in your running. One has to have an emotional tie to his/her running. I don't see my runs as runs. I see it as time hanging out with friends. Find a good cause to run for. After participating in the Miracle Marathon this summer running for many critically ill children, I have a new meaning to my running. Now when I don't feel like going for a run, I will be reminded about these kids who don't have a choice with these illnesses but go on fighting with their lives. THAT thought gets me running everytime! (You can read about the Florida-to-Maine Miracle Marathon stories right here. Thanks to Lynn, the multi-part series are posted here last month.) alan from Calgary -- posted by miraclerunner » desertblue - Re: Re: cold weather running In response to message posted by Lynn:That's a good idea Alan, seeing running as an opportunity to spend time with friends. I usually see it as a chance to be alone and get some good thinking done, but in the cold weather all I think about is a cold nose, cold ears, cold fingers...maybe others can make it easier. It's snowing right now for the first time in Flagstaff. I shouldn't be afraid to go run! The daytime temp is around 65 degrees... warm enough to wear shorts comfortably. But the snow is coming and soon I'll be in the same fix as all that live in regions north of me. -- posted by Lynn
