» jrjo - I'm a believer

I just completed the Twin Cities marathon with pain free hips and knees. I have been taking Glucosamine Sulfate/Chondrotin Sulfate for over a year now. After the initial couple months that are needed for it to take effect, I have noticed dramatic lessening in the twinges in my knees and the pains in my hip. I suffered from Legg Calves Perthes as a child and have had hip stiffness for much of my life. Running during my school days was pain free, but entering my 30s had brought back hip aches. The GC has tamed down the aches and allows me to run in the 20 to 40 miles per week range.

» jrjo - Re: dosages ??

The dosage I take daily is 1500mg of glucosamine sulfate and 750mg chondrotin sulfate. From the research I've done, the sulfate product has given the best results.

Thanks for sharing that! I was very glad to read how much success you have had taking GC.

I have slacked off it, but am starting again.

» Thruhiker - Cholesterol?

I read that this may cause elevated cholesterol levels; from 20 to 100 points.

Any information as to accuracy of this statement?

Thanks.

I have heard rumors to that - but it has not happened to me yet.
Does anyone else have any information on this?
If so - please post it for all of us. Thanks!

And thanks for your comment Thruhiker.

In response to message posted by Lynn:

I used to have lower back pain/popping vertebra every morning requiring stretching exercises to pop it back and releive the pain, in addition to hip pain when I would run or walk medium distances. After taking a Glucosamine/Condroitin/MSM supplement for a little over a year now, my symptoms have almost totally disappeared. I seriously doubt any connection to increased cholesterol levels, since mine used to be 180 and is now down to 159 with no medication; just watching my diet and moderate exercise.

Sorry I just joined and hit the wrong key. I do take this plus MSM and after a few weeks have experienced heartburn. Does anyone else experience these side affects?

Thanks
