» lewp46 - this site.

I came across your site for the first time last night at about 11pm. It's now 3am Australian time, and I've had a great read. Thank you for so much clear and interesting info, I will keep coming back to learn more.

» Amberwest - A part of life

Helloe Dan,

I have read all the info you have put up on runes. Very absorbing.

This is how I came across Suite 101; I was looking for further information on runes. I first came across the runes about 20 years ago. I brought a set from a reader; and there they sat - in my room - undistrubed for a year. When I eventually took them out I felt instinctively that they were meant to also be used as an alphabet. Within 48hrs I was reading and writing in runes; (although not in Old Norse).

I than discovered that this is not unusual; one of Drakes admirals wrote his entire journal in runes and even into the early part of the 20th. century farmers in the North of England used the runes for counting. When we visited Wells Cathedral I was thrilled to find several rune inscriptions upon the tombs.

I now considered runes as a natural part of life and after looking at the Beith Luis I have now finished the trees of the Elder Futhark.

Absolutely absorbing!!
