» Ankou - Re: rune aticles In response to message posted by antiqa111:I do apologize, this was my introduction article to apply at Suite101 and was unaware that it was going to be published. For rune images and more information feel free to check out http://www.execpc.com/~gronitz/futhark/i... - again I apologize. -- posted by Ankou » SandyMcC - Welcome to the suite, Dan! Hi Dan,Welcome! Glad to see this topic here! I know what you mean about having your first article published without realizing your ap was the first article! I can see your poster's frustrations, and when you get it all set up it'll be much more of a help. The last sentence is leading... but to.. nothing.. LOL. Next week you'll do better! There are several different interpretations for the symbols, as are for Tarot cards, etc. Which ones do you use and why? Just curious... Also, some are Sanscrit and some are other languages, is that correct? I have my own set which I made out of stones, but I have the Viking symbols and interpretations. Do you use these at all, or other ones? I look forward to reading/learning more here, and I'll be back! Good journeys to you and yours, and feel free to stop by 'my place' and say hi! -- posted by SandyMcC » RaphaelBlue - All I can say is "WOW!" Hi Dan!You are *UN*believable! I just took a little tour of your site and it's amazing. After reading your article, I had a handful of questions and your site is so thorough and user-friendly that it answered them all and then some ... so much to discover. Your writing style is very friendly, accepting, open and easy to understand. Which is sometimes lacking when a person is good at doling out multitudes of info as you are. You have a nice, pleasing balance. I wanted to make my own set of runes with small rocks I had collected at the beach last year and I'm wondering which set you use yourself? I'm a "go with your gut" sort of person and while I was wandering around your site, the symbols page of Medieval Runes of Healing Magickgick just struck something in me, which made me want to use that one. But I do want to do readings and I don't yet have experience with this but I'm sensing that this set is not meant for readings, am I understanding it right? Warm wishes and many thanks for explaining everything so well! It was a pleasure to visit your pages. -- posted by RaphaelBlue » Ankou - Well thank you. Well I'd just like to say thank you for all the kind words! It means a lot ot me to know that people are getting something out of something that I still only consider a hobby (could it ever be turned into a profession?! That's what I'm hoping! LOL)Okay saw a few questions in some of the messages so I just want to answer those and then I'll stop boring everyone with my chit-chat. LOL --Questions from SandyMcC-- Yes there are many interpretations for each rune stone (as well as for each set of runes). What I have tried to do is find a balance between all of the interpretations that I had found. If the majority of the books I had looked through and studied gave a specific interpretation of a rune I went with that. My feeling on this was that if someone else continued to study the runes they would most likely come into contact with that interpretation. Also, some are Sanscrit and some are other languages, is that correct? I don't know if I fully understand what you mean for this question... I apologize. Are you saying that the meaning or symbols are Sanscrit? Because up until now I have not come across any connections to such a thing. Do you use these at all, or other ones? My main rune set is the elder futhark set I had made from stones, paint, and a small amount of my own blood (it is said to add power to the runes NOTE: I do NOT think that this is a wise thing to do unless you are EXTREMELY CAREFUL about it!!) However I do have a set made of just about every other rune set that I know of. The reason is that some sets are better for different types of readings. --Questions from RaphaelBlue-- Like I said above I use the elder futhark for my main set and for the majority of my readings. But I try to use each of my other sets just to keep in practice with them. I'm sensing that this set [refering to the Medieval Runes of Healing Magick] is not meant for readings, am I understanding it right? Well just because it's not MEANT for that doesn't mean that you couldn't really use them. However if you're looking for meanings on them you'll have to make your own up. Also remember that there are only 8 symbols in that set so you'd probably use them for very vague readings. If you're making your first set of rune stones for casting personally I would stay away from the Medieval Runes. The reason is that there's not too much information on them and you'll have to come up with the meanings for divination on your own. There's a lot that goes into something like that so it might be wise to start with the elder futhark or younger futhork. Unless you really feel like you're drawn to the Medieval Runes... -- posted by Ankou » kaebea - Great topic, great article, welcome! Welcome to Suite101! I've been a contributing editor for 8 months now and never been happier. May you get such fun out of this.I also think your article was great. Don't worry about what you didn't put in your first article. It was only the introduction and you can't put everything in at the start, can you? Use the comments you received for future ideas. There is after all an infinity of time. Enjoy! -- Catherine -- posted by kaebea » istara - Runereading site If you are looking for an online runereading site there is one that I designed at http://www.hyperflame.com/runes.htmlIt is a non-profit site which uses basic javascript and should be compatible for most browsers. My main consideration in creating it was to provide as much information on each rune (viking runes) as possible, which I gleaned from many sources. I also created an information page where you can search by rune image (if you have seen it and don't know what it is) or by rune name. It is at: http://www.hypeflame.com/runeinfo.html I hope that you find the page useful. -- posted by istara » Dantessa - Re: Runereading site Welcome aboard! I have been using the Runes for over 8 years now, and I've been making & selling custom sets to people who want a "personal touch" to their Runes for about 6 years now. So the Runes play quite a role in my life!Glad to see them covered here at Suite. Best of luck to you! -- posted by Dantessa » Ankou - Re: Re: Runereading site Well thank you all for the welcomes. I'm really hoping to be able to sit down one day and really figure everything out here are Suite101 so that my articles can be a little more than just text. I'm such a diehard HTML geek that I haven't tested out what I can and can use here yet. I've looked over all the info, but still have to "get the hang" of some of the shortcuts and what-not.istara - that's a very nice site you have there! Thank you for sharing that with everyone! -- posted by Ankou
