Hi Wendy, thank you for another informative article. I've heard people bragging about their 150 pound Rottweilers, and just as you say, these huge dogs develop all kinds of health problems, and have much shorter life spans. Bigger isn't necessarily better, and breeders that breed these dogs just for their larger size, should be put out of business.

I leaned much from your article, Wendy, and appreciate the education!

Renie

Thanks so much, Renie.

What's ironic is that some of those people who brag about their 150 lb dog really have no idea how much their dog really weighs. People are terrible about overestimating. I've had several people come up to me and make some comment about how Chelsea must weigh at least 120. She weighed around 85 the last time the vet weighed her. Hee-hee.

One lady I talked to had the perfect come-back to use when you meet someone bragging about the monsterous size of their dog. Look at them with enormous eyes and say, "OH MY GOSH. I am so SORRY. That poor dog."

4 years ago I happened to get a rottweiler i named Brutus. He is my best friend and a wonderful family dog!! Little did i know when i purchased him that he would grow to be 160 lbs. Although he is the most beautiful rottweiler i have ever seen (in my eyes anyway) He came with a multitude of hip and tendon problems. This is not only heartbreaking but also costly!! I think it is a shame breeders are doing this purposely to make money!!

Your boy sounds like a great dog. I know just how you feel. I think my Chelsea is absolutely drop-dead gorgeous. However, do irresponsible breeding, she has some chronic eye problems and is practically blind in one eye.

I guess all we can do is love them as much as they deserve, take care of them to the best of our ability, and know to be much more cautious about the next breeder we deal with.

Where can I find a rottweiler that will grow to 160 lb's? For a family pet.
