» cotomcat - Large roses in containers

As we are having the first snow storm of the year, I have a need to know how to winterize my container bound roses. The large HT roses are in 20 gal. containers due to the fact that I live in a townhouse and have no way to plant them in the ground. Seeing that Colorado has harsh winters I need to protect these beauties.
Please send along any suggestions. They will be deeply appericiated.

» Mark_Whitelaw - A bit of a challenge

Hey cotomcat! Glad you stopped in to Rose Garden.

First, suggest you peruse the article "Winter Rose Care" to see the various methods of overwintering roses. Depending on where you live in CO, your procedures may be a bit different.

Considering the size of the containers, I would suggest building cages around them. The alternative suggestion would be to place the containers on some kind of dolly/caster system to roll them into your basement, storage shed or garage for the winter.

Which ever you select, you will want to keep the roses from continuing their season. IOW, let them go into dormancy.

Hope that helps a bit.
