» WilliamG - I won't argue, just don't grow them ...

As you can guess Mark, I don't grow Portland roses in my hot and humid climate. But, they had a wonderful display of Portland Roses at the Garden of the Rose in St. Albans. In England the blooms are very double and looked luxurious (sic). It was very interesting at the Garden of the Rose because many of the types were grown as a group. They had one for the Albas and one for the Gallicas and one for Portlands, etc. The roses were truly spectacular and blooming well. Maybe over the 4th of July weekend I will get to sit down and sort through the pictures and put comments about each one on the photo. Thus collecting my thoughts for vignettes about the roses I saw in England.
