In response to message posted by horseman_53:the dismount from the right side was because most of the ropers were right handed and if you dismount form the left side then there is a chance of getting tangled in the rope while the calf is trying to get away. i would say it started in the 80's, i read a book on Roy Cooper that said he started doing it then.
