Thanks Hank,
the day I took it there was a bushfire blazing away out of control on the far bank behind the bird, which gave this smoky, eery effect. The fire was caused by a controlled (?) fire break burn that got away. It took days to put it out. Probably why all the bird life were on my side of the lake?

We have two pelican lakes in western Minnesota == but not many pelicans. Go figure.

What a beautiful flock. By the way, I recognize that gull. We fed him our fish and chips while visiting Sydney. The fish were so undercooked that I'm not sure they had even been introduced to a stove. The chips were OK though.

Hi Hank,

I have an egret that visits my pond quite often. She/he is beautiful. I also have a Great Blue Heron visiting often.

Mary, we have egrets in the Ozarks.

Mr. Ixia your pelicans are beautiful! We don't have them in the Ozarks.

Enjoyed the article very much, Hank.

Happy Halloween!

Renie

Hi Renie, thanks.
Yes, there were dozens of Pelicans on this stretch of water, which is called "Lakes Entrance" and a very popular fishing and tourist resort.

Is Fort Leonard Wood a part of the Ozarks? If so, I don't remember seeing many birds there. Just rattlesnakes. That's were I was introduced to the Army.

Changing role? What change? Am I out of the loop again?
