Las Vegas, NM history? Gun slingers? Indian lore? Hispanic culture?

Now I'm curious. I should have dropped in when I had the chance.

It's no fun when your grandkids are far away. We moved to the same town with all of our grandkids (and their parents, of course).

Hi Jerri:

Thanks for the plug. I needed it. I just returned from the tax preparation dungeon. That is one task that makes me feel like a kitten being chased by ten thousand dogs.

» Red - loved it...

Hank,

I loved this article. I have to admit there's not out talking or out eating grandchildren. Kids today are too smart for their own good. smile My 9 year old grandson can just about best me already in the argument department. And his 7 year old brother isn't far behind. However, when it comes down to serious matters, they do listen to grandma when they won't listen to their parents. Not that grandma and parents always agree, but hey, life would be dull if we all thought the same way.

Enjoyed my visit, as always. Glad to know you were spending some time with your grandson.

I wish I could spend more time with the grandkids but 1000 miles separate us now. Because of the separation, I fear that I am not much of a factor in their growth. C'est la vie.

Nevada? That's the last place I got snowed in. I had to dig car out of a snowbank using my skis.

Las Vegas, NM: There was a plaque on a bridge near old town that said Coronado was there in his explorer days, Hank. We didn't research more in town, which we should have.

There's an old drugstore with a soda fountain that has a couple of carved wooden Indians inside and a row of herbal remedies no doubt used by the locals.

There's also an old hotel that has been restored as a bed and breakfast, can't remember the history of it.

When there we stopped in a western store and a local Indian got to talking with my Dad. I think he told some tall tales of the area; we enjoyed the banter. It's definitely a place where you can travel back in time.

It's a college town and sits under some beautiful mountains. We didn't explore as much as we should have.

Anyway, this is my bird's eye view.

I haven't seen a wooden indian since leaving Knotts Berry Farm in California. I guess I should have taken in more of the sights while I was still way down south in Colorado.
