» JudyBrown - It gets even more interesting :)

Great article, speaking as the mother of boys myself I think it is great when kids feel free to talk about anything with their parents. Have to admit though I did cringe at some of the questions they had over the years can get pretty interesting as they grow older. Makes for some lively discussion and sometimes I cringed at the subject matter but managed to get through it. smile

Thankfully they are all grown up now and still feel free to talk to us about anything.

Thanks!

» Dan_Ellsworth - Dumb-Luck Shockers

A side matter or two supporting the article:

1. One thing I remember Mom telling me during childhood, back when black-and-white TV was state-of-the-art: Things done by characters on TV are not always the right things to do. I remember thinking: Why does Mom think she has to TELL us that? Of course they aren't. So, apparently her remedial announcement wasn't needed, or I didn't think so, because she had told us, her kids, a lot about right and wrong, and a lot of those TV characters just didn't stack up.

2. Maybe Mom had already, more subtly, taught us a deeper skepticism about things that came in from outside the home; I can hardly remember a time when we kids didn't "talk back" to ads.

3. (Here's where my Subject line came fromsmile Sometimes kids don't know what their shocking or questionable words mean; they just know that some words get quite an interesting reaction from the larger people in their lives. So, once, middle son Matthew was singing along to a then-current hit song, "Let's Get Physical", and Judy started hugging, cuddling, and kissing him. Puzzled, Matthew asked, "What does physical mean?"
