» colleenmwilliams - Hi, Patricia,
Once again, let me say that I am pleased to be back. Thank you for the great work. I enjoyed reading your article, it was interesting and well worth my valuable time. Great opinions! Thank you for all your hard work. As a former elementary teacher, and the parent of a fifth grader, I have mixed emotions on this issue. I believe that skills must be taught first. I believe that first through fourth grade should be years spent learning the skills of reading, writing, scientific processes, and math. However, I believe that there is room for creativity and imagination, logic and problem solving, as well as the arts in our children's lives. How do we achieve all of this? I don't know. As a parent, I can only try to give to my child what I feel he child misses at school. I think testing is necessary, but should not be the only judgement of a child's abilities. I believe in the multiple intelligences. Pray for the United States during this dark, dark hour in our history. I do.-- posted by colleenmwilliams
