Hi Adelle,

You are right -- "knowledge is power." This article is very "empowering." I had many misconceptions about smallpox. Chief among them was that I thought the mortality rate was much, much higher. And while it sounds like a horrible disease to suffer through, it is comforting to know that the mortality rate is 30% and not the 90% that I imagined.

Except for the issue of so many people in America with compromised immune systems. sad AIDS, Autoimmune disorders and many other things. However I too was surprised at the 30% mortality. I thought it was higher until I did the research - all things considered, it still isn't a great option though. sad
