» joyangel348 - Estrogen as a carcinogen

I have been on estrogen replacement therapy since 1982, first in tablet form for about 4 or 5 years and then on the transdermal patch. Do you have any information regarding the patch? Is it as risky as oral ERT? I have no ovaries due to two episodes of ovarian cysts resulting in surgical removal. Following the birth of our two children, I underwent removal of the uterus, so I have no female reproductive organs left. Being small-boned, my doctor said it was extremely important for me to be on ERT in order to help guard against osteoporosis. I would appreciate any info on the use of these patches.

That is one controversial question you have asked. First of all, I would talk to a gynecologist that you trust. The issue of estrogen therapy is fraught with different opinions. I haven't made up my mind what I think - I have a little longer before I have to decide but it is an issue every woman has to address sooner or later. I would research everywhere you can and talk to some good doctors about their opinions. Another hint: ask a pharmacist - you would be amazed at what they know that docs aren't as well informed on. Best of luck. I wish I could have been more help.
