Pharmacists: Requirements or CourtesyRead the article this discussion is about

» Tina_Coruth - How tragic. Hi Adelle,How tragic that the parents were not warned about this drug. I didn't know that pharmacists aren't required to give the warning. The pharmacy we use always includes a paper listing side affects and warnings. I wonder if the warning about children and the medicine Cameron was given would show up on their list. This is a valuable lesson to us all. I think pharmacists should be required to issue warnings. Until then, we consumers will have to do the research ourselves. Great article. Thank you! -- posted by Tina_Coruth » donna226 - pharmacists It is truly awful that people, especially children, die every year due to lack of knowledge. Pharmacists should warn people of potentially hazardous side effects of medications. My pharmacist does. He will answer any questions you have about the medication. He will even call the doctor's office if the medication is not appropriate for the patient. My pharmacist had called the doctor about a prescription for high blood pressure. My mother in law has trouble breathing and the medication would have made it alot worse. I have seen him call doctors about medications that could have killed the patient. If you can find a pharmacist that will give that little bit extra and one that actually cares for the people he fills the prescriptions for, hang onto them. They are hard to find, but they are out there. I take thyroid replacement medication. I went to a pharmacy close to my home to fill my prescription. The pharmacist gave me Synthroid, I normally take Levoxyl. There wouldn't be any life threatening consequenses to taking the Synthroid, but I did feel lousy most of the time I was on it. I asked the pharmacist if it was okay to change brands. I had been taking the Levoxyl for 3 years. He told me it wouldn't bother me at all. It did. I was cold most of the time, and very tired. Some of the signs of low thyroid levels. It does make a difference in brands. I will be traveling a half an hour to my favorite pharmacist from now on. He would have told me it wasn't good to switch brands. He would have also checked to see what brand I usually purchased. Shop around for pharmacists like everything else. -- posted by donna226
